School and college trips to Jim Corbett
Beds, safety, and a reason for the trip that a parent will accept.
We will tell you which properties can genuinely take a class of sixty, and which cannot.
Why Corbett
A field trip with something actually to study
Corbett is a drive rather than a flight, which means no airport supervision and a cost per student a school can justify. It is also a working tiger reserve with a documented history — India’s first national park, and the ground Jim Corbett wrote about.
What makes it a field trip rather than an outing is that several properties here run real programmes: an organic farm and a biological sewage treatment plant, named trail curricula, camera-trap research. Those are lessons rather than activities, and they are what a head of department needs in order to sign the form.
The part we do is the unglamorous part — beds, sittings, jeeps, hospital distance and a written protocol.
Beds
Schools count beds, not rooms — and most Corbett resorts cannot do it
A property of thirty-odd cottages is a fine holiday and a poor school trip. Sixty students on triple sharing is twenty rooms, plus staff, plus the teaching space, plus a dining room that can feed everyone in one sitting.
Most properties will say yes and work it out afterwards. We check the arithmetic first, and we tell you plainly when a property cannot take your group.
The rest of it is safety, and safety is not a brochure question. It is a list, and we go through it before we quote.
The safety list we go through, every time
- Is the pool supervised, by whom, and at what hours
- Is the perimeter secured — this is a tiger reserve buffer
- Distance to the nearest hospital, in kilometres, not “nearby”
- Doctor on call, and what that actually means at 2am
- Staff accommodation adjacent to student rooms
- Jeep count, seatbelts, and named guides for every vehicle
- A written emergency protocol and one named contact for the school

The safari line is what schools are most often misled about: ten jeeps in one zone on one morning is frequently not obtainable, and a trip planned around it gets rearranged on arrival. We plan for two mornings from the start.
When to come
The months, honestly
- Nov – FebCold mornings and the best sightings of the year, and it sits well in the school calendar.
- Mar – AprWarm, dry and comfortable — the easiest months to run outdoor teaching sessions.
- May – Jun38°C with sixty teenagers is not an educational experience. Avoid.
- Jul – OctMonsoon. The core zones close and the southern gates stay open. Quiet and inexpensive to place, but plan the teaching indoors.
Reopening dates are set by the Forest Department each year and we do not print one until it is confirmed. Ask us and we check the portal for your dates rather than guess.
Before you book anywhere
Worth asking, whoever you book through
Ask us, or ask them. We would rather you booked the right thing somewhere else than the wrong thing with us.
How many can you seat in one dining sitting?
Not “we have a restaurant” — a number. Sixty students eating in two shifts costs you an hour, twice a day.
How far is the hospital, in kilometres?
“Nearby” is not an answer a school can put in a circular to parents.
Who supervises the pool, and when?
If the answer is that the pool is open and staff are around, treat it as unsupervised and plan accordingly.
How many jeeps, in which zone, on which morning?
Get it in writing. Permits are capped per zone per day, and this is the single commonest thing to be rearranged on arrival.
Questions
Asked often
- What group sizes do you handle?
- Twenty to about a hundred and twenty. Above roughly seventy we plan safaris across two mornings from the start, because ten or more jeeps in one zone on one day is often not obtainable.
- Do you provide a written safety protocol?
- Yes, before booking, with a named contact reachable through the trip. We would rather you compared it against another operator’s than took it on trust.
- Can the trip be built around a syllabus?
- Yes, and it is worth doing. Tell us the subject and the year group — a biology field study, an environmental science unit and a history trip on Jim Corbett’s writing use quite different properties.
- What is the best time of year?
- October to March, for comfort and for the school calendar. Avoid May and June.
- Do you take payment on this site?
- No. We take no payment on this website. School bookings are invoiced to the institution against a signed scope — never to a personal account or a UPI number.
